As a soloist with numerous orchestras and a captivating recitalist and chamber music performer in an international career that spans four continents, Michel Lethiec has established himself as one of the finest clarinetists in the world.

Born in France, Lethiec studied at the prestigious Paris Conservatory where he earned first prize in clarinet and in chamber music. The following year, he won the interpretation prize at the international competition in Belgrade.

Since debuting at New York's Carnegie Hall in 1980, Lethiec has toured extensively throughout Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and the Far East, performing with such artists as Leonard Rose, Gary Hoffman, Joseph Suk, Wladimir Spivakov, Dimitry Sitovetsky, Philippe Entremont, and Jean-Bernard Pommier. He has played as a guest artist with St. Martin in the Fields, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Scottish Orchestra, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, the Slovac Chamber Orchestra. Concentus Hungaricus, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. He has also been a guest of the Stockholm, Barcelone, Bonn, and Radio France Philharmonics as well as the Talich, Vermeer, Takacs, Pasquier, Mozarteum, and Lindsay Quartets.

Lethiec is also an enthusiastic player of contemporary music, and has premiered concertos and pieces by such composers as Ballif, Boucourechliev, Corigliano, and Risset. He is the artistic director of the Pau Casals festival in Prades, and is professor of sight reading at the Paris Conservatory. Lethiec is frequently invited to give masterclasses abroad, and was the first West European clarinetist ever invited to teach in China (at the Shanghai Conservatory).

Lethiec's upcoming appearances include the Budapest and Prague Festivals, Alice Tully Hall in New York, Champs Elsées Theater in Paris, the Hambourg Philharmonic, Munich Herkulasaal and Wien Musikverein, and Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow.
